Thursday, June 25 | 11:30-12:15pm
Attendees will work through the details of implementing a Computer Science class (or entire program) within a classical, Christian framework. We will focus on the logistics of acquiring and maintaining technology, training and hiring teachers, and fitting Computer Science into the broader classical mission of the school. We will then explore curriculum philosophy, the many possible approaches to teaching Computer Science, language choice, and the various challenges of offering a CS elective.
Participants will be walked through several sample lessons, explore exemplary student work, and discuss how to grade and assess CS assignments. Each segment of the technology channel workshops will be structured to time for Q & A.
Math & Science Teacher
Regents School of Austin
Brandon grew up in Indiana playing basketball and Euchre and engaging in numerous other Hoosier pastimes. After working in corporate finance for a brief stint, he joined Teach for America where he taught Math for three years at disadvantaged schools in both rural Mississippi and inner-city Indianapolis. His classical teaching experience began at Regents School of Austin a decade ago where he has taught Math and Economics and started their Computer Science program. These days, he spends almost all of his free time hanging out with his three kids, helping to homeschool his oldest son and playing Bluegrass mandolin.
